DEVELOPMENT

SeaChange consultants have been instrumental in establishing numerous innovative services and initiatives, always working collaboratively with team members, managers and the people they support.

We now offer external support and mentoring to senior staff members and teams and have found that our independent stance and experience of many different provider settings has been valuable in this area, particularly for managers and teams going through change or experiencing conflict.

Our mentoring sessions are focused on helping staff to prioritise their work-load, work more strategically and communicate effectively with each other.  Mentoring  can also be combined with training and development projects.

SeaChange also provides mentoring to freelancers or smaller organisations who can sometimes find working alone an isolating experience.  We offer ongoing support to freelance workers as well as helping to shape business ideas, develop new work and plan for the future.

What We Do

Group Advocacy

SeaChange has a great record of supporting groups of people to speak up. We have worked with tenant groups, students, centre users, young people and older people on projects, campaigns and presentations that ensure people get their voices heard. Group Advocacy demonstrates the power of peer support, and participants gain a huge amount from the collective experience.

Sometimes the advocate represents people by mediating between different parties, professionals & family members – always working in the best interests of the client to help resolve difficult issues.

We also provide Independent Support to people serving on Boards and Committees, as well as offering advice to organisations on making their boards and committees more inclusive.

One To One Advocacy (121)

Passionate about people having control over their own destiny, we believe that every individual should be leading decision making that affects their future.

We always advises people to access their local, free advocacy service in the first instance but sometimes this is just not possible due to limited provision. We therefore offer 121 advocacy to a small number of clients.

We have vast experience in providing One to One (121) Advocacy and are often approached to support with more complex advocacy issues.  All one to one advocacy is action focused using freelance, independent advocates. We have had great success resolving difficult issues, and have supported many people to make major life changes.

In recent years SeaChange has supported mothers with learning disabilities through child protection procedures and in the family court and we are developing this work in partnership with parents.

Drama

What We Do

SeaChange staff are unique in that many of us come from Arts backgrounds.  Our freelance artists have over 25 years experience of working with community groups creating powerful theatre that tells the stories of the people involved, often combining drama and advocacy.

SeaChange theatre projects provide forums and platforms for people to explore their history, tell their stories, and highlight issues that are important to them.  They can be a series of drama workshops or much bigger productions or short films. Participants find the process empowering and performances are moving and insightful, offering an opportunity to ‘walk in someone else’s shoes’ and view the world from their perspective.

Theatre projects can go hand in hand with other aspects of our work.  For example we worked with a group of service users consulting on what they want from the staff that support them, and then made a film for them to share with the staff.  The film delivered a more powerful message than any formal training could.  The organisation that commissioned the film, now use it as a tool for recruiting and training new support workers.
